Frequently Asked Questions

PLAB stands for Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board. It is a test used to assess the knowledge and skills of international medical graduates who wish to practice medicine in the UK. The test is divided into two parts, PLAB 1 and PLAB 2, and is administered by the General Medical Council (GMC) of the UK.

The PLAB exam is a two-part assessment used to evaluate the knowledge and skills of international medical graduates who wish to practice medicine in the UK. It is administered by the General Medical Council (GMC) of the UK. The first part of the exam, PLAB 1, is a computer-based test that assesses the candidate's medical knowledge and understanding. The second part of the exam, PLAB 2, is a practical clinical exam that tests the candidate's clinical skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients. Successful completion of the PLAB exam is one of the requirements for obtaining registration with the GMC and practicing medicine in the UK.

To be eligible for the PLAB exam, candidates must have a primary medical qualification that is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. In addition, they must have achieved a minimum score of 7.5 overall and a minimum of 7.0 for all four language skills on the IELTS Academic modules, or a B grade on the OET Academic modules.

The PLAB 1 exam is a computer-based test that covers a wide range of medical topics, including basic sciences, clinical sciences, and medical ethics and law. The exam consists of 180 multiple-choice questions, and candidates have 3 hours to complete it. The questions are designed to test the candidate's knowledge and understanding of important medical concepts and their ability to apply this knowledge in clinical situations. The PLAB 1 exam is intended to assess the candidate's readiness to move on to the practical clinical exam, PLAB 2.

The PLAB 2 exam is a practical assessment for international medical graduates seeking to practice medicine in the UK. The exam has four parts, covering history taking and communication skills, clinical examination, practical skills, and management and ethics. The exam assesses the candidate's ability to apply medical knowledge, skills, and attitudes in a clinical setting and is designed to ensure their readiness to practice medicine safely and effectively in the UK.

If you fail the exam, LLS will do your registration procedure again provided you meet all the requirements. You can attempt the exam a maximum of four times.
